on Artist Books and Self-Publishing
Saturday 30 June 2018, 10am–4pm
This workshop coincides with the exhibition Tsuka curated by Kristian Haggblom.
Rohan will bring his extensive knowledge of making artist books, self-publishing, working as a researcher and practising artist to this workshop to give an overview of the creative, constructive and marketing concerns of artist book making and publishing. Utilising his experience of making his own artist books and working with designers, Rohan will guide participants through the details of photo-book formats, typography and design. He will cover the practical concerns of prints runs and types, trade information, pricing for stores, distribution, inclusion in art-book fairs, Social media promotion and fundraiser campaigns. The workshop will conclude with a group portfolio review and sequencing options for participant’s work.
Rohan is a Melbourne based photographic artist whose large format photographic work questions the transformation of space and our relationship with the environment. He has participated in artist residency programs at Lethbridge University, Alberta, Canada and the Centre for Art and Architecture Kanazawa, Japan. Research trips conducted include China, Alaska and the Arctic.
In addition to exhibiting he has published several artist books, printed locally and in Japan and have had books published by the Velvet Cell (2017) and Perimeter editions (2018). For a period of 8 years he worked at Metropolis and NGV Bookstores and he has been a Japanese photo book adviser and supplier to a selection of Australian bookstores during this time.
